Our History

Chatham Moving & Storage's roots evolved out of World War I. Our founder, Eugene (EP) P. Sacco Sr., after serving in the quartermaster corps, realized that the gas engine and trucks would launch the freight industry. At the time, horse and wagon did most of the transport.

EP started by hauling limestone block into New York City for construction of the buildings in lower Manhattan. Soon after, he purchased a Packard with a 15 foot body. In 1924, he hired his first employee and concentrated on making household and industrial moving his business. Trips took him to Boston and Cape Cod. Since the trucks did not have heat, he would drape his legs with a canvas cover and stick a lantern between his feet!

The business continued to grow when EP's son Gene (Bud) arrived home from World War II to enter the family business after serving in Europe with the Army Air Corps. The trucks got bigger and the trips became longer, and a warehouse was purchased in Madison, but Chatham Moving & Storage kept its reputation as one of New Jersey's top moving and storage companies.

In the 1980s, EP's four grandsons took over running the family business. With a renewed focus on residential moving and household storage, they upgraded the vehicles and the company's storage capabilities by building two state-of-the-art, climate-controlled warehouses.

Today, Chatham Moving & Storage are some New Jersey's most recommended companies. Everyday, we prove that the old-fashioned method of hard work, honesty, and commitment to customer service has not been lost.
